Donating your marketable stocks or bonds to the American Lung Association of Indiana is an easy way to make a substantial gift that benefits both parties. Typically, when appreciated securities are sold in the regular market, there is a capital gains tax. When securities are donated for charitable purposes they are exempt from this tax. As the donor, you will also be entitled to an income tax deduction for the full current market value of the gift. However, we recommend that anyone considering a gift of large magnitude consult with a tax or financial advisor. Your cash donation aids a variety of programs such as Camp Superkids, a summer camp for children with asthma; Asthma Clinical Research Center, multi-center studies of asthma patients; Better Breathers Clubs for adults with chronic lung disease; Lung Education Centers, providing lung health education through hospitals or respiratory clinics; resources to be smoke free; and many other community and professional programs.
